Cleveland Elementary School

Cleveland Elementary School – Washington, DC

Located in the Shaw neighborhood of the District of Columbia, the school was renovated to upgrade the existing facility and provide additional space to meet current educational needs.  The existing building, a three-story structure built in 1911, was completely renovated and an addition was constructed on the south side.

The structural renovation work included new floor and roof framing in several areas, the installation of an elevator, and new door openings in the existing brick bearing walls.

The three-story addition, which contains a cafeteria, a gymnasium/auditorium, an art room, and an egress stair, is composed of long span steel roof trusses and composite steel floor framing supported on masonry bearing walls and steel columns.

Construction administration, on-site support, and visual monitoring of an adjacent townhouse were also provided throughout construction.

  • Estimated Construction Cost: $9.4 million
  • Total Building Net Area: 35,870 SF
