Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum – Washington, DC
The Renwick Gallery was in need of major renovation to address failing infrastructure including roof, façade, accessibility, and anti-terrorism improvements as well as HVAC, electrical, fire, and life safety systems. The entire basement also needed to be renovated to accommodate the new systems as well as space requirements for security, staff, and equipment.
Woods • Peacock Engineering Consultants Inc. was responsible for the preparation of schematic design thru construction documents for all of the structural engineering work associated with the project
Structural scope included:
- New truss system threaded into the existing ceiling and roof framing of the Grand Salon
- Creation of new floor systems in the attic to accommodate mechanical and museum needs
- Modification of existing multi-wythe brick bearing walls
- Construction Cost: ~$30 million
