USACE Nellis AFB

Air Force Reserve Training Facility – Nellis AFB, NV

Initially slated for demolition, the existing Visiting Airman’s Quarters (VAQ) was completely renovated and converted into a training facility to accommodate a Defense Base Closure and Realignment (BRAC) Commission recommendation.

This major renovation required a structural analysis to verify that the existing structure complied with the seismic, antiterrorism, and progressive collapse requirements of the Unified Facility Criteria (UFC), including ASCE 31.

As a result of the analysis, the existing concrete slabs and frames were strengthened with glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) to meet the UFC.

Construction Cost Limit: $8.424 million
Size: 26,683 SF
Goal: LEED Silver
